The hypothesis that statins could modify the inflammatory process in ARDS and improve outcomes is biologically plausible. This prospective RCT randomised 540 patients with ARDS for less than 48 hours to simvastatin (enteral 80mg daily for 28-days) or placebo in 40 ICUs in the UK...
