This is interesting, but how many patients of this age group actually survived in-hospital cardiac arrest? Surviving to hospital discharge obviously defined a select, more robust subset of all those who had suffered a cardiac arrest and so perhaps not surprising that they had a reasonable longer term prognosis. What I found surprising was that 10% of comatose/vegetative state elderly patients were alive at 1 year! Private hospital? | |

This large observational study followed 6972 over 65 year old patients who had survived to hospital discharge after in-hospital cardiac arrest. They report;
- 1 year survival of 58.5%
- Risk factors for death at 1-year included older age, race (black patients worse outcome),...
