Interesting study - while it is easy to dismiss the findings as evidence of "wasted resources", I wonder what the impact of these treatment decisions is on family. Another good example is waiting until family have arrived from a distance to see the patient before they die. Perhaps this has a significant psychosocial impact on families and survivors that we are too quick to dismiss as insignificant. | |

This is another paper from the "Outcomerea" study, an entertaining topic for a few reasons. Firstly, in French ICU's, there is a bias towards treatment on birthdays, and 3.2% of patients spend their birthday in ICU! Re-affirming the knowledge that their is bias in end-of-life decision...
